The Skilled Worker Visa (formerly Tier 2 General) allows people from outside the UK, and the EU since Brexit, to work in the UK for an approved employer. It replaced the old Tier 2 system after Brexit and is now the primary immigration route for most professional roles in the UK.
The visa is tied to a specific employer and role. If you change jobs, your new employer must also be a licensed sponsor and must issue you a new Certificate of Sponsorship.
The visa can initially be granted for up to 5 years and can be extended. After 5 years of continuous residence on a qualifying visa, you may be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), which is permanent residency in the UK.

How Hiredge Saves You Hours of Research
The biggest challenge for Skilled Worker Visa applicants isn't finding jobs. It's finding jobs with employers who are actually licensed to sponsor. Thousands of UK job listings don't mention sponsorship at all, even when the employer is a licensed sponsor. Others say "we do not offer sponsorship" when they may in fact hold a licence.
Hiredge cross-references every employer in our job alerts against the official Home Office Register of Licensed Sponsors. When you enable the visa sponsorship filter, you only receive alerts for employers on that register. No guesswork, no wasted applications.
